The California Attorney General has a website page that allows you to determine whether you are listed on the Child Abuse Central Index (CACI).  This website page was intended to conform with the requirements of California Penal Code Section 11170.

Each year investigations involving child abuse  are reported to the Child Abuse Central Index.  The reports pertain to investigations of alleged physical abuse, sexual abuse, mental/emotional abuse, and/or severe neglect of a child.  The reports are submitted by the police, sheriff's, county welfare and probation department.  A criminal conviction is not required for you to be listed in the child abuse index.

California Penal Code Section 11170 states in part that:

"Any person may determine if he or she is listed on the Child Abuse Central Index by making a request in writing to the Department of Justice..."

There are a couple of ways you can find out if you are in the Child Abuse Index:

1) Complete a form called the California Department of Justice Child Abuse Central Index Self Inquiry Request Form and mail it to the department of justice OR

2) Send a notarized letter inquiring whether your name is in the index.  The letter should, at a minimum, include:

    a) all names you have used in the past (aka, aliases, etc.)

   b) your date of birth

   c) your current address

   d) your previous residences in California
