Similar to grand or petty theft, embezzlement is essentially a crime of theft from a person who trusted their property with another (Penal Code Section 503, read in conjunction with the "theft" Penal Code Sections).  This crime can be charged as a felony or misdemeanor, similar to the theft statutes.  Please refer to our Petty/Grand Theft section for more information.
