Driving Offenses
Driving With A Suspended License
This very common charge is filed by the District Attorney if the DMV has suspended one's license for some reason, and that person is subsequently caught driving while their license was suspended. A conviction for this offense is a misdemeanor, and, surprising to most, the District Attorney will frequently ask for a custody commitment (or CAL TRANS) depending on the facts of your case, your prior convictions, and your driving record.
There are many reasons that DMV suspends a California Driver's License - failing to appear at court, failing to pay a ticket, being stopped for DUI, failing to renew, etc. As anyone knows, dealing with the DMV can be very difficult at times, and you may not have even known that your license was suspended. Contacting the right attorney in many cases is necessary to avoid custody time or a misdemeanor conviction on your record.
